Seven weeks can be enough time to revise FR, if the weeks have different jobs. How far it takes you depends on where you are starting from. The plan below moves through three stages: consolidate the syllabus, practice questions by topic, then rehearse the real exam with mocks. It assumes you have already studied the material once. It is a revision plan, not a first-pass study plan.

A quick anchor before the weeks: FR is a three hour exam with 100 marks. Sections A and B are objective test questions worth 60 marks and can test any syllabus area. Section C is two 20-mark constructed response questions, one on preparing financial statements and one on interpretation. Your plan has to serve both halves.

Weeks 1 and 2: consolidate the syllabus

Goal: no zero-knowledge topics left.

  • Go through the whole syllabus at a steady pace, not just your favorite topics. Sections A and B punish gaps anywhere.
  • For each topic, rebuild one worked example yourself: the workings, the journal entries, and where the numbers land in the statements. Rebuilding beats rereading.
  • Keep a running list of weak topics. Be honest. This list drives week 4.
  • End week 2 with short recall checks on every syllabus area. A few minutes per topic is enough to expose what is not really there.

Weeks 3 and 4: question practice by topic

Goal: turn knowledge into marks.

  • Week 3: objective test practice across all areas, in small mixed sets. Mixed sets matter because the exam does not group questions by chapter.
  • Week 4: attack your weak-topic list from weeks 1 and 2. For each weak topic, do questions until you can explain why each wrong option is wrong.
  • Start every day with a handful of questions on topics from earlier weeks. Spacing the reviews out is what makes them stick.

Week 5: Section C skills

Goal: full 20-mark answers, under time.

  • Practice complete constructed response questions, typed, with a timer set to about 36 minutes each. That is the time a 20-mark question earns at 1.8 minutes per mark.
  • Alternate preparation questions (single entity and group) with interpretation questions. You will face one of each in the exam.
  • After each attempt, mark it against the model answer line by line. Record the marks you missed and why. The list of "why" entries is your revision syllabus for week 7.

Week 6: mock exams

Goal: rehearse the full three hours.

  • Sit at least two full mocks under exam conditions: one sitting, strict timing, no notes, and the same on-screen tools you will use in the real exam.
  • Review each mock the day after, while the memory of your reasoning is fresh. Sort every lost mark into: did not know it, knew it but applied it wrong, or ran out of time. Each bucket needs a different fix.
  • If you want a tool for this stage, Gradus includes FR mock exams with instant grading for objective test questions and AI grading with partial marks for written answers, labelled as AI-assessed.

Week 7: close the loops

Goal: fix what the mocks exposed, then land calmly.

  • Spend the first days on your mock error list and the week 5 "why" list. Fix causes, not questions.
  • Redo a small set of questions on your worst areas to confirm the fix took.
  • Rehearse exam logistics: timing per section, the order you will attempt questions, and what you will do if a question stalls you.
  • Taper at the end. Sleep is exam preparation too.

If you have less than seven weeks

Compress from the front, not the back. Shorten consolidation and topic practice, but protect week 5 and week 6. Written practice under time and at least one full mock are the two highest-value items in this plan.
